World Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on 5th October to highlight the rights, responsibilities, and values of teachers. More than 100 nations, including India, Canada, the United Nations, the Philippines, and Australia, mark the day with zeal. The Teachers’ day honours the teachers presented around the world for their significant role in the economic growth of countries by providing education.
International Teachers Day: History
UNESCO introduced this Day in 1994 to draw attentions to teachers’ achievemnets an contribution, as well as to teachers’ concerns and objectives in education. 5th October was chosen as the international day to honour teachers because it was on that date in 1966, a special intergovernmental meeting accepted the recommenadation of UNESCO on the Teachers’ status.
Significance
The day brings attention to the many issues around teacher recruitment, training, and education. The day is significant in overcoming these problems and marking their progress. World Teachers’ Day also focus on teachers’ working conditions and job prospects around the world, as well as the ways in which they are discriminated against.
