RBI Launches UPI For Feature Phones: On Tuesday, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das launched the most awaited UPI (United Payments Interface) facility for feature smartphones.
Thie new service, UPI 123PAY will enable more than 40 crore feature phone users to access the popular digital transactions platform, without having an internet connection.
The launch of UPI 123PAY provides access to UPI payments to a section of people who was so far been excluded from the digital payments landscape.
Using UPI 123PAY, you have to do only a three-step process to initiate and execute a payment.
Feature phone users will now be able to undertake a host of transactions depending on four technology alternatives. They include calling an IVR (interactive voice response) number, a missed-call-based approach, app functionality in feature phones, and also proximity sound-based payments.
UPI 123PAY users can initiate payments to family and friends, pay utility bills, FAST Tag recharge, mobile recharge bills and also allow users to check their account balance.
The RBI Governor also launched a 2487 helpline for digital payments, which has been set up by the NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India).
