Srikakulam Train Accident: Three of the five persons, who were killed after a speeding express train ran over them in Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh on Monday night, were identified.
The deceased persons were residents of Assam and were identified as Banishar Basummairy, Pasumantri Vajulu, and Rashidul Islam.
The incident took place when some passengers in the Secunderabad-Guwahati Express train pulled the chain and tried to cross over the other track. They came under the Konark Express (Bhubaneswar-Mumbai) train coming on the adjacent track and the five people died on spot.
Meanwhile, state Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed anguish over the death of passengers. He has directed officials to take stock of the situation. The CMO has directed the officials to provide aid to the injured.
CM Jagan has been briefed on the situation and is personally monitoring the rescue operations.
It may be recalled that in November 2013, a speeding passenger train ran over the passengers in Bokaro (Alappuzha-Dhanbad) express waiting on the adjacent track after rumors spread that the S1 compartment of Bokaro express had caught fire, leaving nine people dead, and one suffered injuries at Gotlam East Cabin area in Vizianagaram district.
