Bharat Bandh 2024: The All India Backward And Minority Communities Employees Federation (BAMCEF) has decided to observe ‘Bharat Bandh’ on Wednesday over the government’s refusal to conduct a caste-based census for OBCs (Other Backward Classes).
According to Neeraj Dhiman, the Saharanpur district President of the BMP (Bahujan Mukti Party), the federation is also protesting the non-implementation of reservations for the OBC/SC/STs in the private sector and the use of EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) during elections, among other issues.
Along with BAMCEF, the Bharat Bandh is also supported by the National Parivartan Morcha, Bharat Mukti Morcha, Bahujan Mukti Party, and Bhartiya Yuva Morcha, and other affiliated organizations.
The acting state president of the BMP DP Singh has appealed to the people to make the Bharat Bandh a successful movement.
The demands of the organizations include:
- Caste-based census of OBCs
- Reservations for SCs/STs/OBCs in private sector
- Scrapping the use of EVMs in elections
- Non-implementation of NRC/CAA/NPR
- New law to guarantee MSP to farmers
- Vaccination is not to be made compulsory
- Separate electorates in OBC reservation in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha Panchayat Elections
- Resumption of old pension scheme
- Protection of workers from labor laws made during Covid-19 lockdown
- Protection of tribal people against displacement in the name of protection of the environment
Banks, shops, and small businesses may get impacted by today’s Bharath Bandh. Transport services, schools, colleges, and offices are likely to operate normally.
