Puducherry Postpones School Reopening; Reports Hospitalization of 20 Children With Covid-19: Puducherry postpones school reopening for some days. Recently, 20 kids were hospitalized with covid-19 positive, in this UT. Even, some sections also filed pleas asking the Puducherry government to reconsider its decision of reopening the schools.
Puducherry was ready to reopen schools from 16th July, for classes 9 to 12. But, because of a spike in the coronavirus cases along with the filed pleas, the Homa and Education Minister A. Namassivayam has informed the decision of postponing the school’s reopening. Once the situation is conducive, a fresh date will be announced for the reopening of schools.
Namassivayam also said that after discussing with the CM N Rangasamy, and the officials of the education department, we took this decision. AIADMK and Congress were against the reopening decision.
In a phased manner, schools and colleges are getting reopened slowly across the country. Over a year, educational institutions were closed. Now, some state governments are preparing for the reopening of schools. As per some stakeholders, the number of Covid-19 cases is decreasing and the vaccination rate is increasing, so the situation is conducive for reopening. While some others are not believing it because vaccination is not for the majority of the population.
Covid-19 Situation in Puducherry
More than 100 covid fresh cases were reported recently in the Puducherry. By adding this number, the overall covid 19 cases count reached more than a lakh. The recovery rate and testing rate are high and the fatality rate is low. But by these factors, the risk factor can not be ruled out. Vaccination is not completed yet but happening at speed.
