Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur hosted a reception at the Ashoka Hotel on Monday to honour the Olympians who returned home after winning medals at the Tokyo Olympics. The felicitation ceremony was held to recognise the outstanding performance of the Indian players in Tokyo.
An exclusive event held at the grand Ashoka Hotel on Monday to honour all seven Indian Olympic medalists, as well as all other national players who represented their countries at the Tokyo Olympics, was held in their honour.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur congratulated the Olympians, saying, “Not only have you won medals, but you have also won the hearts of Indians.” “You are the new heroes of the new India,” he said further, addressing the audience. The minister stated that you are a true inspiration for youths who will compete to win a medal in the upcoming Olympics. The minister went on to say that “Indian youths will turn to sports with new dreams and aspirations.”
According to Thakur, PM Modi “kept the spirit of Olympians always strong,” talking with them before leaving for Tokyo and even in between to keep morale up. During these days, PM Modi also spoke with their parents and inquired about the health of the athletes, according to Thakur’s claims.
This year, India brought home seven medals from the Tokyo Olympics, which was the country’s best performance to date.
In the javelin throw, Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal, while Ravi Dahiya took home a silver medal, Mirabai Chanu took home a silver medal in weightlifting, PV Sindhu won a bronze medal in badminton, Lovlina Borgohain won a bronze medal in boxing, Bajrang Poonia won a bronze medal in wrestling, and the men’s hockey team took home a bronze medal as well.
