Sivaji Ganesan’s 93rd Birth Anniversary: Friday, 1st October marks the 93rd birth anniversary of late actor Sivaji Ganesan. On this occasion, Google has paid tribute to the legendary with a Doodle on him. The Bengaluru-based artist named Noopur Rajesh Choksi has designed the Doodle, Google noted.
Sivaji Ganesan was born on 1st October 1928, as Ganesamoorthy in Villupuram, Madras Presidency (present Tamil Nadu), British India. At the age of 7 years, he left his house to join a theatre group. In December 1945, Ganesamoorthy portrayed Maratha ruler Chtrapathi Sivaji in a play “Shivaji Kanda Hindu Rajyam.” With this iconic performance, Ganesamoorthy earned the moniker of Shivaji, and for the rest of his life, known by that name.
He debuted with the film “Parasakthi” in 1952. Even though he was mainly active in Tamil cinema, he appeared in nearly 300 films, including Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam languages. In a career span of 5 decades, he won many awards. Sivaji Ganeshan was the first Indian actor to win the best actor award at an international film festival (Afro-Asian Film Festival in Cairo, Egypt). He bagged this award for his performance in Veerapandiya Kattabomman in the 1960s.
Ganesan, who was also involved in politics was described as the Marlon Brando of south India’s film industry by the Los Angeles Times. On 21st July 2001, at the age of 72, he had his last breath.
