Due to the media frenzy surrounding the arrest of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in the Mumbai drugs-on-cruise case, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said he is “repelled by the ghoulish epicaricacy” of those who are “witch-hunting” Shah Rukh Khan, and urged empathy for the high-profile family’s situation.
Seven people, including 23-year-old Aryan Khan, were detained by the Narcotics Control Bureau on Sunday after a party aboard a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai was searched (NCB). On Monday, a Mumbai court denied Aryan Khan bail and he was taken into NCB custody until Thursday.
To add colour to the controversy surrounding Aryan Khan’s arrest, Mr. Tharoor took to Twitter “As someone who has never used recreational drugs, I find the witch-hunting of @iamsrk in response to his son’s arrest to be repulsive. People, you need to practise some empathy. Having a 23-year-face old’s rubbed in the public eye is bad enough without doing it gleefully.”

The anti-drugs bureau claims that the Mumbai cruise raids yielded 13 grammes of cocaine, 21 grammes of charas, 22 pills of MDMA, and 5 grammes of MD. According to an unnamed NCB official quoted by the Press Trust of India, the drugs were found concealed in clothing, underwear, and purses.
Aryan Khan claims he was a special guest on the cruise ship and “cannot be dragged into the entire seizure in the case.”
