One person has been arrested in the gang-rape case of a 17-year-old girl inside a car last week in Hyderabad, said the police. It also added that out of the five people identified, three are minors.
The crime in Telangana state capital, allegedly involving children and grandchildren of politicians driving luxury cars, has triggered howls of protest.
“Victim could not reveal anything about culprits. She only revealed one name and special teams were formed to arrest the culprits. CCTV footage was recovered and we have identified five culprits, as per the CCTV footage and victim statement,” said police officer Joel Davis.
The security footage showed the girl standing with the suspects outside the pub where she met them. The boys had offered to drop her at home. She was assaulted inside a parked car in an upscale neighborhood area in the city. Her attackers took turns raping her whereas the others stood guard outside the car.
Initially, the police registered a case of “outraging modesty” based on the girl’s father’s complaint, and later it was changed to a rape case.
