Madras HC pulls up actor Vijay, for not paying the entry tax of his Rolls Royce car. On Tuesday, the Madras high court dismissed the Tamil actor Vijay’s plea. In that plea, he asked for exemption from paying the entry tax for his Rolls Royce Ghost Motor car. He imported that car from England. The court directed him, to pay the government demanded entry tax within two weeks. Justice SM Subramaniam heard the plea and imposed a 1 lakh rupees fine on the actor. Vijay was directed to pay that amount to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Covid-19 relief fund.
The court noted in its order, “The petitioner, who is a famous movie actor, is expected to pay the tax amount punctually and promptly.”
The court also said, “In Tamil Nadu state, movie heroes are rosed as state rulers. The people are also thinking of those heroes as real heroes. Tax evasion is considered an anti-national attitude, habit, and mindset and unconstitutional also.”
The court further said that the actors, whose pictures are against corrupt activities in the society, who portray themselves as champions to bring social justice in the society, are escaping tax and acting like, they are not in consonance with the provisions of the Statutes.
In addition to the above, Justice SM Subramaniam in his order said that the non-payment of entry tax by Vijay is never appreciated and also he has not respected his fans, who paid money to watch his movies. The order said that the reputed persons should realize that the money they are earning is from the poor man’s hard-earned money and not from the sky.
