National Science Day is celebrated every year on 28th February to recognize the contributions of scientists towards the country’s development. On this day, in 1928, Indian Physicist Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman made an important discovery in the spectroscopy field, which was named the Raman Effect. In 1930, CV Raman was awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize in Physics for his work.
National Science Day: History
In the year 1986, the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) asked the Government of India to declare 28th February as National Science Day. Hence, the government accepted this and announced the day as National Science Day which was first celebrated in 1987.

National Science Day is celebrated to raise awareness about the importance of science. Educational institutions celebrate National Science Day by organizing public speeches, science movies, radio, TV, science exhibitions on concepts, debates, lectures, and science model exhibitions.
