Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal in eastern India, stated today that she plans to form a new opposition coalition in the upcoming general election. She made it clear that Congress is not fighting “ongoing fascism.”
“What is the goal of UPA? There is no such thing as the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).” Ms. Banerjee made the announcement during a meeting with Nationalist Congress chief Sharad Pawar this afternoon in Mumbai. Mr. Pawar, a key opposition interlocutor, stated unequivocally: “The framework for 2024.”
“Because no one is fighting fascism, a different strategy should be devised. Everyone must collaborate. No matter where one is, one must engage in a battle to the death. I met with Sharad ji, the organization’s most senior leader, as a political courtesy “she stated
Mamata Banerjee stated that a non-Congress alternative was out of the question. “Everything Sharad ji said made sense to me. The current system requires a ferocious, combative alternative. What are our options if someone refuses to fight? We want everyone on the field to work together to complete the task.” Ms. Banerjee has been elevated to national prominence following her massive victory over the BJP in the April-May assembly elections in Bengal.
If Mr. Pawar had been asked if he should lead the UPA, she would have replied: “What is the UPA’s purpose? Is the UPA still active? What exactly is the United States Anti-Poverty Administration (UPA)? Everything will be taken care of by us. We’re looking for a viable alternative.
Ms. Banerjee is widely expected to become the opposition’s public face. Trinamool Congress is seen as the next big national party after Congress, with a steady stream of new leaders gaining ground in multiple states such as Bihar, Goa, Meghalaya, and Haryana.
A sizable number of her party’s new members have come from the House
Last week, Mamata Banerjee extended an open invitation to any political leader who wanted to join Trinamool’s fight against the BJP in Delhi. Sonia Gandhi’s meeting with Congress President Rahul Gandhi was also a topic of discussion that caused her to become “agitated,” she said.
Mamata Banerjee previously stated that she was filling the void in states where the Congress was not fighting and that states such as Maharashtra should not be overlooked.”
Mr. Modi has rejected Ms. Banerjee’s efforts to unite the opposition
According to a senior BJP leader, Sonia Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal did not meet with Ms. Banerjee during her recent visit to Delhi.
“People who previously supported her have grown tired of her policies of imposing her will on everyone. She can only go to any of these states if she wants to because there is no benefit or assistance she can provide to anyone if she does. In states where Congress has been depleted, one or two ex-congressmen may be able to assist her “The news agency ANI quoted Mr. Ghosh as saying.
