Neeraj Chopra won India’s only gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Following his historic victory, the 23-year-old was subjected to a slew of questions, some of which straddled the fine line between inquisitive and intrusive. It was a recent art historian’s question that was labelled “unprofessional” and “offensive” by many on social media. His attempt to question the Olympian about his sexual life was met with harsh criticism on social media.
Mr Sethi is seen in a video that has gone viral on Twitter asking Neeraj Chopra how he manages to balance his athletic training and sex life. Mr Sethi began, “Kitne sundar naujawan hain aap (You’re a good-looking young man),” before asking Neeraj Chopra, in Hindi, how he managed to balance training and sex life. He went on to say that he knew it was a “behuda” (inane) question, but that he had a serious question behind it as well.
Neeraj Chopra, visibly unsettled, refused to respond to the question. “I’m sorry, sir,” he apologised.
When pressed again, the athlete refused to answer the question. The art historian apologised for his question this time, but Neeraj cut him off, saying, “Please sir, aapke question se mera man bhar gaya hai (Please sir, I am done with your questions).”
The video has received over 4 lakh views on Twitter, where it was shared on Friday.
