For the fifth year in a row, Indore has been named India’s cleanest city.
In a survey conducted by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, Noida was named the country’s “cleanest medium city,” and Varanasi was named the “cleanest Ganga town.” Chhattisgarh has been named the cleanest state in India.
Chhattisgarh remained India’s most polluted state, while Indore was named the country’s cleanest city for the fifth year in a row.
Surat and Vijayawada were ranked second and third in the category of “cleanest city” in the ‘Swachh Survekshan Awards, 2024.
Varanasi, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hometown, was voted the “cleanest Ganga town,” with Munger and Patna coming in second and third place, respectively.
According to the latest survey results released on Saturday by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, Navi Mumbai lost its third place position to Vijaywada and was ranked fourth in the latest ‘Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024.’
President Ram Nath Kovind, the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, and others were among those present.
In 28 days, cleanliness surveys were conducted in 4,320 cities, with over 4.2 million people taking part.
Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are the second and third cleanest states, with over 100 urban local bodies each. In the list of states with fewer than 100 urban wards, Jharkhand came in first, followed by Haryana and Goa.
Indore, Surat, Vijaywada; Navi Mumbai; Delhi; Ambikapur; Tirupati; Pune; Noida; and Ujjain are the cleanest cities with populations of more than one million people. Lucknow came in last place out of a total of 25 cities studied, according to this metric.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Lonavala and Sasvad, both in Maharashtra, are in second and third place.
Ahmedabad was named the cleanest city in the cantonment board, with Meerut and Delhi coming in second and third place, respectively.
Surat was declared the winner, with Indore and New Delhi finishing second and third in the district rankings, respectively.
