In the rural local government elections for the 9 missing districts in Tamil Nadu, the second voting for the 4 posts of District Councilor, Union Councilor, Grama Panchayat Leader and Grama Panchayat Ward Member has started today. Voters have been arriving at the polling station since 7 a.m.
The 2nd phase of the local government elections has started today. Voting will take place in all 35 unions from 7 am to 6 pm. The public is voting peacefully.
In Tamil Nadu, elections were announced in two phases on October 6 and 9 for local bodies in Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Vellore, Tirupati, Ranipettai, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts.
The first phase of the local government elections ended yesterday. A total of 74.37 percent of the vote was recorded.
Voting
In this context, the 2nd phase of polling in the rural local government elections is going on today. Out of which 62 District Panchayat Ward Member posts, 356 Panchayat Union Ward member posts, 1,324 Village Panchayat Chairman posts, 10,329 Village Panchayat Ward member posts are being held in 35 Panchayat Unions in 9 districts for a total of 12,376. Elections for seats are underway. A total of 6,652 polling stations have been set up for this.

Accordingly, voting has started at 7 am.
Voting runs until 6 pm. Special arrangements have been made for those affected by corona infection and those with symptoms to vote for one hour from 5 pm to 6 pm. 34 lakh 65 thousand 724 people are going to vote in this election.
Police
About 40,000 people, including police and garrison troops, were deployed during the second phase of the polls.
Votes cast in these two phases will be taken to the counting centers and counting will take place on the 12th.
Previously, ballot machines from various districts were safely taken away for this purpose.

In Villupuram district, in the run up to the second phase of local government elections, the task of allocating election posts to government employees was carried out in the Koliyanur Panchayat Union.
In the run-up to the by-elections in Madurai Thirumangalam, the room where the ballot boxes were kept was opened in the presence of the election officials at the Panchayat Union office.

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker Appavu cast his vote in the ongoing local government elections at Lebbai residence near Panakudi in Tirunelveli district.
Speaking to reporters after the vote, Speaker Appavu said, “Local elections are taking place after ten years. People are voting with understanding. It is gratifying.”
In the rural local elections, 9.72% of the votes were cast till 9 am. The second phase of polling will take place from 7 am. Villupuram district recorded the highest turnout at 13%. The lowest turnout was in Tirupati district at 5.22%
