She died while being treated at a local hospital after being raped and brutalised in the early hours of Friday morning in the Sakinaka area of suburban Mumbai. The woman, 34, was raped and severely beaten inside a stationary tempo in suburban Mumbai’s Sakinaka.
After being tortured with an iron rod, the woman was sexually attacked and raped. The attack, which was disturbingly similar to one that took place in Delhi in 2012 on a young medical student, left her with permanent scars.
A squad of police officers was dispatched to the scene at 3.30 a.m. on Friday after the control room got an emergency call. They discovered her lying in a pool of blood on Khairani Road.
When viewed in daylight, the area’s main road appears to be very busy, with more than a moderate amount of traffic zipping up and down it. In addition, the police have obtained disturbing CCTV footage, which appears to show a guy standing over what appears to be a body lying on the ground.
According to the news agency PTI, the caller said that a woman was being beaten by a male.
She was sent to the Rajawadi Hospital, which is run by the government, for treatment.
According to a report by PTI, preliminary investigations revealed bloodstains inside the tempo, which had been parked on the roadside during the attack.
Only one person has been detained, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI). Mohan Chouhan, 45, was taken into custody on allegations of rape and attempted murder, the report claimed.
Now that the woman has passed away, the charges against her will be upgraded to murder.
At 3 p.m., the Mumbai Police Department is slated to conduct a press conference.
The National Commission for Women has taken notice of the attack and voiced its dismay at the “barbarity and horror” of the incident, ordering the police to “immediately intervene… a FIR must be filed,” according to the commission.
The National Coalition for Women (NCW) called for charges of rape, murder, and voluntarily causing serious bodily harm, and encouraged authorities to conduct their investigations in a fair and timely manner.
