California wildfires are now the second worst in state history
Greenville, USA: The terrible dixie fire in Northern California has grown into the second largest wildfire in state history, officials said Sunday, with three people missing and thousands escaping the blaze. As of Sunday, the fire had destroyed 463,477 acres (187,562 hectares), up from 447,723 acres the previous day. It now covers a bigger area than l. a. .
Dixie Place is that the largest active wildfire within the us , but one among 11 major wildfires in California.
Over the weekend, it ignited the 2018 Mendocino Complex Fire, the second worst fire in state history. On Saturday, Governor Gavin Newsom visited the burned historic city of Greenville and expressed his “deepest gratitude” to the teams fighting the fire.
He said authorities should allocate more resources to manage the forest and prevent fires. But he added, “Drying is getting much drier, it’s hotter than ever … we’ve to admit directly that these are climate-induced wildfires.”
Climate change is increasing drought, which is drying up areas, spreading wildfire out of control and creating better conditions for unprecedented material and environmental damage. The Dixie fire, which injured three firefighters on Saturday, was up 21 percent on Sunday, unchanged from the previous day, the Calfire website said.
The crew estimates that the hearth , which started on July 13, won’t be finally extinguished for 2 weeks. Weak winds and high humidity have provided some relief for firefighters, but they are expected to exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius) in the coming days. Heavy smoke was dangerous for firefighters in some areas, and steep paths made it difficult to access.
The state’s eight largest wildfires have all occurred since December 2017. The dark scars of previous sparks sometimes helped the Dixie Fire crew, reducing the available fuel. Thousands of residents fled the area, many found temporary shelters – even living in tents, and often not sure if their homes had survived.
The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office said it had been trying to find three people listed as missing, with two missing over the weekend.
Dixie said the fire had already destroyed about 400 structures – Greenville – and that workers and equipment were being used to rescue homes on the Crescent Mill, a small town three miles (five kilometers) southeast of Greenfire. More than 5,000 employees are now battling the Dixie fire.
Despite repeated eviction orders from authorities, some residents have refused to escape, preferring to fight the hearth on their own rather than leaving their property. By the end of July, the number of burns in California had increased by more than 250 percent by 2020 – the worst wildfire in the state’s modern history.
During the preliminary investigation, Dixie is said to have started the fire, which was blamed on a 2018 campfire accident when a tree fell on a power cable owned by the regional utility Pacific Gas & Company (PG&E), which killed 86 people.
