Children’s Day or Bal Diwas is celebrated on 14th November, across India. This day marks the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who is the first prime minister of India. He is fondly called Chacha Nehru by children. Nehru advocated for an all-rounded education of children that would build a better society. He considered children are the real strength of a nation. Prior to Pandit Nehru’s death, India celebrated this day on 20th November which is World Children’s Day.
Children’s Day 2024: History And Significance
After the death of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964, the Indian Parliament passed a resolution to mark his birth anniversary as Children’s Day. Apart from the tribute to Pandit Nehru, this day also aims to increase awareness of care, rights, and education of children.
On this day, schools conduct sports events, quiz competitions, and other activities. Children have presented sweets, toys, and gifts to make the day special.
