Continued heavy rain .. This will be the red for you farmers .. Stalin, GK Vasan request!
Chennai: TMC leader GK Vasan has demanded that the deadline for crop insurance be extended in view of the difficulties due to the continuous heavy rains in Tamil Nadu. His statement said: –
Government of Tamil Nadu –
The last date for crop insurance for farmers is November 15. In view of the monsoon difficulties, the crop insurance period should be extended till November 30. The Government of Tamil Nadu should issue a notice to extend the period for crop insurance for Tamil Nadu farmers.
November 15 is the last day to insure rabi season crops in the crop insurance scheme for this season. This means that farmers will benefit from insurance for mustard, black gram and samba paddy by November 15. Agriculture is currently affected by the ongoing monsoon and heavy rains and farmers are also suffering economically due to high losses.
It is also difficult for farmers to meet the village administration officer regarding crop insurance during this rainy season. In this situation, the Tamil Nadu Agriculture Department has announced that the paddy cultivated by the farmers who are not insured under the crop insurance scheme should be insured by November 15, 2024. In the present context, this announcement of the Government of Tamil Nadu will not be favorable to the farmers.
The Government of Tamil Nadu should act to help the farmers who have been most affected during this period of heavy rains in Tamil Nadu. Therefore, the Government of Tamil Nadu should extend the deadline for crop insurance to farmers to November 30, taking into account the difficulty of the monsoon season, which is November 15. Thus said GK Vasan.
