The life story of Kalam is the inspiration for everyone. Born in a modest family, he faced hard times in his childhood. To achieve goals, he studied well. He pursued Aeronautical Engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology.
In 1958, Kalam joined as a senior scientific assistant in DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization). In 1969, he became part of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization). In ISRO, he was project director of the first satellite launch vehicle, SLV-III.
In 1982, Kalam re-joined as director in DRDO. There the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program was implemented by him. Because of this program, Kalam is also called ‘Missile Man.’ In 1992, he was appointed as the senior scientific adviser to the defense minister of India. In the Pokhran-II tests, Abdul Kalam played a crucial role.
In the year 2002, he became the President of India by defeating Lakshmi Sagal. Kalam was also known as the People’s President.
Several books were written by him. He was conferred with Padma Bhushan and Bharat Ratna in the years 1990 and 1997 respectively.
At the age of 83, he took his last breath on 27th July 2015.
