Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been issued a notice by the Enforcement Branch in the Panama Papers scandal. The Panama-based Mosaic Fonseka Law Firm has branches around the world. The company had over 3 lakh customers. Fonseka’s mission is to help celebrities from around the world illegally hoard and buy property abroad.
Secret documents from the company, entitled ‘Panama Papers’, caused a stir in the media in 2016. The documents were researched and published by 107 journalists from 80 countries.
Documents reveal that more than a million celebrities around the world have amassed unaccounted assets. Icelandic Prime Minister Sigmundur David Kunlaxen and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have been ousted from the Panama Papers. Political leaders and celebrities from various countries were embroiled in corruption.
It has been reported that Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and actor Amitabh Bachchan have also evaded taxes.
In this case, the enforcement unit has sent a summons to actress Aishwarya Rai to appear in person in the Panama Papers case. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been asked to appear in person at the Mumbai Enforcement Division office this afternoon. However, reports say that Aishwarya Rai has requested the Enforcement Division that she will not be able to appear today and will appear on another day.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is likely to be prosecuted by law enforcement officials under the Foreign Exchange Management Act 1999. A similar summons had already been sent to Aishwarya Rai, but she did not appear at the Enforcement Division office at the time. The Panama Papers scandal also named 300 Indians. This includes Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and many more. They have been charged with tax evasion.
