Ramanujacharya: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 216-feet tall statue of Saint Ramanujacharya, called the Statue of Equality, on the ashram of Tridandi Chinna Jeyar Swamy at Muchintal, Hyderabad.
Who was Ramanujacharya
- Ramanujacharya was born in 1017 in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. He was revered as a Vedic philosopher and social reformer and traveled across India, advocating social justice and equality
- He revived the Bhakti movement and his preachings inspired other Bhakti schools of thought
- As per the scriptures, Ramajucharya lived for 120 years
- Ramanujacharya made education accessible to the most deprived in those days
Statue of Equality
- The Statue of Equality is made with a combination of five medals called ‘Panchaloha’, which includes gold, silver, copper, zinc, and brass
- It is the world’s second tallest statue in a sitting posture, Buddha statue in Thailand is the first one
- The statue has been mounted on a 54-feet high base building named ‘Bhadra Vedi’ which has floors meant for a Vedic digital library, a theatre, ancient Indian texts, and an educational gallery detailing the works of Sri Ramanujacharya
- In the complex, Ramanujachray temple has also been constructed covering an area of about 300000 square feet, where 1 120 kg gold idol will be placed for daily worship
- Statue of Equality is located at the JIVA (Jeeyar Integrated Vedic Academy) at Muchintal, Shamshabad, Hyderabad
- The statue is also encircled by the replicas of 108 sacred shrines called Divya Deshams including Srirangam, Tirumala, Badrinath, Brindavan, Kumbhakonam, etc
