In connection with an extortion case, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch has filed an application in a sessions court seeking the issuance of a non-bailable warrant against former Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, according to the police department. The application will be heard by the court on October 29th.
The allegations of extortion against Param Bir Singh are being investigated by the crime branch. On October 9, the Mumbai Police issued a summons to Param Bir Singh, ordering him to appear before them in connection with the investigation. The police even went to his Malabar Hill residence, but were unable to locate him there either.
Param Bir Singh, who is currently facing at least five criminal cases in the state, is believed to have fled to another country, according to recent reports. The new notice was filed in response to the reports.
According to a complaint filed by builder-turned-hotelier Bimal Agrawal, a case against Param Bir Singh was registered at Goregaon police station against him. Agarwal had claimed that Param Bir Singh had extorted Rs 9 lakh from him in exchange for not conducting a raid on two bars and restaurants that he and his partner owned and operated together, and that he had also been forced to purchase two smartphones worth approximately Rs 2.92 lakh for them. The incident, according to the complaint, occurred between January 2020 and March 2024, according to the complaint.
Among those charged are Param Bir Singh, former police officer Sachin Waze, Sumit Singh alias Chintu, Alpesh Patel, Vinay Singh alias Babloo, and gangster Chhota Shakeel’s henchman Riyaz Bhati, all of whom have been dismissed from their positions.
Following the arrest of Sachin Waze in connection with the discovery of an explosive-laden SUV near the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani in South Mumbai, Param Bir Singh was relieved of his position as Mumbai police chief and assigned to the Home Guard.
