The video of DMK MP Kanimozhi questioning in the Lok Sabha as to what is the problem in making the names of projects announced by the central government understandable to all the people of the state is going viral.
He also questioned how the benefits of the scheme would reach the people if it stumbled even to pronounce the names of the schemes announced by the Prime Minister.
Kanimozhi also told the Lok Sabha that the names of the projects could be put in the respective state languages or in English so that they could be understood by the common people.
“Atma Nirbar Bharat Abhiyan”
The self-reliant Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) movement, known as Atma Nirbar Bharat Abhiyan, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2020. Prime Minister Modi described the economy, infrastructure, organization, vibrant people and demand as the five pillars of the country, equivalent to 10 lakh per cent of the country’s GDP. He had announced an economic package worth crores of rupees.
Key features of the plan include an increase of Rs 40,000 crore in funding for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to increase employment, an increase in investments in public health to combat future epidemics, to facilitate corporations doing business, and to increase state borrowing from 3 percent to 5 percent by 2020-21 alone. .
Kanimozhi stumbled in speech
At the Glasgow Climate Conference, there was a debate in the Lok Sabha on the promises made by India, including Net Zero, on the plans of the Union Government to tackle climate change, and on the importance of consultation between the Central and State Governments. DMK MP Kanimozhi, who spoke at the time, said it was difficult to pronounce the name of the project, “Atma Nirbar Bharat Abhiyan”. Since the word is Hindi it cannot be pronounced with clear pronunciation by Kanimozhi. Then the Speaker and other members of the North helped to spell it out correctly
Project names must be in English
He then jokingly told the Lok Sabha that the project names in Hindi were not understandable. He also said that it was difficult to pronounce the names of the central government’s plans to be announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He asked how people would understand the benefits of the scheme when it was difficult to pronounce the name. Kanimozhi also questioned the difficulty of naming projects in the respective state languages or English so that not everyone in the multilingual Indian country could understand Hindi.
Do you understand if i speak in Tamil?
One member then interjected, “What do we do if you do not understand?” Kanimozhi retorted, “Then I speak Tamil … Tell me if you understand.” Kanimozhi said there was no search in Parliament for speaking in Hindi and that prior permission had to be obtained to arrange for translators in advance if other languages were to be spoken, while there was no provision in Parliament for translating it into Hindi. The video of the DMK MP jokingly speaking in the Lok Sabha is currently going viral on social media.
