A gang of men viciously slapped a man selling bangles in public in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, reportedly because he gave the wrong name. In the incident on Sunday, the 25-year-old allegedly robbed his assailants of $10,000. Narottam Mishras, the State Home Minister, stated that “bitterness occurs when an individual hides his name, caste, religion,” adding that the incident is not “communal.”
“Despite the fact that he was from another community, he was using a Hindu name. He also had two separate adhair cards… marketing straps that our girls wear and use for sawan (monsoon) “That was mentioned by the minister
A video posted on social media shows the victim, Tasleem, being thrashed by a group of men on a crowded street in Indore’s Banganga district. The unidentified men can be heard shouting at him while those around him are watching; none of them are attempting to help the victim.
“You can take whatever you want. He should no longer be seen in this area, “As he pulls bangles from his bag, a man can be heard saying. The man also requests that members of the public come forward and thrash the victim, who is seen being pulled up by his t-shirt by a man from behind.
Later, three to four men charge forward and thrash him mercilessly.
“When I revealed my name, the accused immediately began beating me. They also stole the $10,000 I was carrying and broke the bangles and other jewellery I was wearing “According to the victim’s police complaint.
After hundreds of people gathered outside the police station demanding action against the accused, a police case of rioting, assault, robbery, intimidation, and attempting to disturb communal harmony was reportedly registered late at night. Within 24 hours of the incident, the three main suspects were apprehended.
The police have asked people not to react to social media posts about the incident.
“We would like to encourage people not to respond to communal social media posts. We are also monitoring such social media posts. They will face severe repercussions “Ashutosh Bagri, a senior police officer at the Indore East police station, confirmed this.
Meanwhile, Indore’s District Collector stated that following the incident, some banned organisations were discovered to be disrupting communal harmony in Indore.
“We are keeping an eye on them. They are being watched. It was also discovered that activists from the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) had come to Indore and instigated the youths for such incidents, and a case was filed against those who led the protest outside the Central Kotwali police station. The police have been looking into the situation. Some names of PFI and SDPI employees have surfaced; a case will be filed against them as well “He stated.
