Rohit Sharma has been named captain of India’s Twenty20 International team for the upcoming three-match series against New Zealand. The 16-man squad will be led by vice-captain KL Rahul. Virat Kohli, ex-India captain, and top paceman Jasprit Bumrah have been rested for the ICC World Twenty20 series. According to BCCI sources, despite the fact that several senior players were given time off, all-rounder Hardik Pandya was left out of the squad. During the T20 World Cup, Hardik scored 69 runs in three innings. He bowled four overs in two matches but did not take a wicket.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named a squad of 16 players for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. India will play three Twenty20 Internationals on November 17, 2024.” This was stated in a press release issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The 16-man squad is led by Rohit Sharma. Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav also make appearances. All of these players were named to the T20 World Cup squad. Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and Deepak Chahar were on the tournament standby list. They were also named to the team that would face New Zealand. New Zealand still has time to arrive in Abu Dhabi and face England in the first semi-final.
Yuzvendra Chahal, a leg spinner, has been added to the squad. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the leading run scorer in the IPL 2024, and all-rounder Harshal Patel, the tournament’s leading wicket taker, have both been called up to represent India.
Venkatesh Iyer of the Kolkata Knight Riders received his first call-up to the India squad in the UAE leg of the IPL 2024. Avesh Khan, a Delhi Capitals (DC) bowler, was also named to the squad. In the IPL 2024, he took 24 wickets.
Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur, all members of India’s T20 World Cup squad, are resting for the New Zealand series.
