Terrorist homicide attack on Mizoram trucks in Assam!
Guwahati: The border conflict between Assam and Mizoram has resurfaced. Tensions between the two states have risen again as four trucks heading to Mizoram in Assam were hijacked.
A fierce gun battle between the two-state police took place on July 26, the culmination of the Assam-Mizoram border clash. Six policemen from Assam were shot dead. More than 40 Assam policemen were injured.
This angered the people of Mizoram in Assam. The people of Assam also closed the national highway leading to Mizoram. All vehicles going to Mizoram were stopped on the way. This unannounced embargo on Assam has had a severe impact on Mizoram. Assam Chief Minister Himnta Biswa Sharma had also warned the public not to go to Mizoram. Thus those who blocked the roads on the Assam border became excited. Following this, measures are being taken to alleviate the border tension between the two states.
Chief Minister Advice of Assam
As part of this, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma lifted the ban on anyone going to Mizoram. He also asked the public to allow vehicles going to Mizoram. Mizoram had earlier withdrawn the attempted murder case against Himanta Biswa Sharma. It was expected that the normalcy between the two states would be restored by these measures.
Attack on truck
In this situation, 4 trucks were going towards Mizoram in a row through Sachar district of Assam. Locals have been investigating who diverted the trucks. The delay was due to the drivers of the trucks saying that they were taking eggs to Mizoram state. The eggs were brought in bulk and dumped on the road.
Mizoram demand
The incident has reignited tensions between Assam and Mizoram. The Mizoram government has urged the central government to intervene immediately. Mizoram also said that the border issue should be resolved peacefully. Tensions over the Assam-Mizoram border conflict are still high. Both state borders are guarded by armed forces as part of the International Boundary Line. The Assamese are adamant that nothing should be available to the people of Mizoram. The people of Mizoram say they will import goods from Bangladesh and Myanmar if this situation persists.
Nagaland-Assam Agreement
As for Assam, it has border disputes with all the northeastern states like Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh. There are border clashes with Meghalaya in 12 places. The Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya have concluded two rounds of talks in this regard. Committees have also been set up to resolve the two-state border issues. Similarly, the Assam-Nagaland state governments have signed an agreement to reduce tensions on the border. Accordingly, the bi-state police have been excluded from border security duties. These border clashes continue as all the northeastern states are separated and formed from the state of Assam. Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had traveled to the northeastern states. He then met and consulted with all the heads of state. During the meeting, he stressed the need to create a scientifically acceptable solution to border issues. The Assam-Mizoram conflict erupted just two days after Amit Shah’s arrival.
The BJP’s hand is now raised in Assam. So the BJP has to find a social solution to the border problems.
