Winter Olympics: The MEA Ministery of External Affairs) on Thursday said that India’s officials in the Beijing embassy will not be attending the opening and closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics 2022.
This decision comes a day after a PLA (People’s Liberation Army) soldier, who was involved in the Galwan Valley clash in June 2020 with Indian Army troops, was made a torchbearer at the Beijing Winter Olympic Torch Relay 2022.
MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said it is regrettable that China has chosen to politicize events like the Olympics.
Meanwhile, Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati has announced that the DD Sports channel will not telecast live the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022.
As per the Chinese state media, Qi Fabao, a PLA commander from Xinjiang military command stated that he carried the flame at Winter Olympic Park on Wednesday.
According to Chinese media, around 1200 torchbearers will carry the flame for the Winter Olympic Games and there are about 600 torchbearers for the Paralympic Games.
The Beijing Winter Olympic Games 2022 torch relay is being held from 2-4 February and the games start on 6th February.
