Selvakumar, the son of a farmer from Thammampatti village near Rasipuram in Salem district, has quit his IT job and is now setting up a new business in the agriculture sector.
Farming family
Born into a farming family, Selvakumar graduated from the Tamil Way with a Bachelor’s degree in Corporate Secretariat in Coimbatore, a Master’s degree in Accounting and Control from Bharathiyar University. He also secured M.phil in management at Periyar University.
Travel to Bangalore
After graduating in 2013, Selvakumar moved to Bangalore in search of employment and after months of searching, he joined Accenture BPO’s Data Validation Associate. He resigned after 4 months of not working for Accenture
Teacher
He then taught at home at the Duson and Coaching Center for one year, then joined ICFAI National College for 5 years as a lecturer in finance and as a placement coordinator.

Selvakumar, who has many jobs, formed Laymen Agro Ventures Pvt Ltd in 2016 with the help and support of his wife Sharmila with an investment of Rs 30 lakh. Not only his savings but also his family and friends have lent him money for this investment.

The concept behind Farm to Kitchen Table is based on Lehman Agro Ventures. The business idea is to buy produce directly from farmers and supply it to people living in cities without any additives.

Lehman Agro Ventures has a turnover of Rs 4.3 crore in the financial year 2020-21, a growth of 45 to 50 percent every year, with the company trading at just Rs 8 lakh in its first year.
Agreement with farmers
After launching Lehman Agro Ventures in 2016, he has started the business by contracting with farmers near Coimbatore. Because it is traded in aggregator model mode there will be only one among manufacturers and customers.
VilFresh brand
Under this scheme, 1800 liters of milk are currently being supplied directly to customers daily from 100 farmers under the VilFresh (Village Fresh) brand. Also, this trade is currently done only in the Coimbatore area.

Through Selvakumar’s Lehman Agro Ventures, intermediaries have been eliminated and farmers have not only earned better incomes but also created employment in rural areas.

Selvakumar’s Lehman Agro Ventures is currently managed by Selvakumar and Sharmila. Selvakumar and Sharmila hold 60 percent stake in the company, 25 percent with family and friends, and 15 percent with friends.
