On Saturday, BJP state president K Surendran claimed that mainstream political parties in Kerala are vying to extend support to the Taliban after the terrorist group seized control of Afghanistan.
He accused both the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF and the Congress-led UDF opposition of engaging in different kinds of politics after the terrorists retook power in the neighbouring country.
He also claimed that those who support the Taliban are attempting to whitewash the Moplah riots that occurred in the state in 1921.
“Mainstream political parties in Kerala are competing to lend their support to the Taliban. The state’s political leaders are encouraging religious extremism by providing milk and honey “Mr Surendran stated this during a press conference.
The BJP leader attacked the Left government and its police force, saying they were taking a “irresponsible” stance as extremist forces gained strength in the state.
He also called the recent kidnapping of a group of Jammu and Kashmir youths with unlicensed firearms in the state “serious.”
Mr Surendran’s remarks are significant in light of the raging debate in Kerala over whether the Malabar Rebellion, also known as the “Moplah (Muslim) Rebellion,” which occurred in the northern part of the state in 1921, was a revolt against the British or a communal riot.
The BJP and RSS, on the other hand, have described the rebellion as one of the first manifestations of the Taliban mindset in India, strongly opposing the Left and Congress’ decision to treat it as part of India’s freedom struggle.
