Mamta Banerjee hasn’t been to Delhi since her Trinamool Trinamool’s July victory over the BJP in Bengal’s April-May elections.
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be in Delhi from November 22 to November 25 for Parliament’s winter session, which begins on November 29
According to sources, Trinamool leader Akhilesh Yadav will meet with opposition leaders, with the repeal of farm laws expected to be the focal point of the meeting.
Following 15 months of vehement farmer protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced yesterday that the three farm laws passed by Parliament last year would be repealed.
The formal process of repealing the laws is expected to begin during this session.
Ms Banerjee’s tweets on Sunday included “heartfelt congratulations to every single farmer,” “consolations to the families of farmers who died,” and “chastising the BJP for the ‘cruelty’ shown to protesters.”
According to the news agency PTI, Prime Minister Modi will meet with Indian opposition leader Mamata Banerjee. The centre’s contentious expansion of BSF jurisdiction is expected to come up during their meeting.
Ms Banerjee wrote to Prime Minister Modi last month, accusing him of attempting to undermine India’s federal structure. The central government of India has extended BSF jurisdiction in Bengal, Punjab, and Assam to 50 kilometres from the international border, prompting criticism from the states of Punjab and Assam.
The BJP governs Assam. Elections will be held in Punjab, where the Congress currently holds power, next year.
Ms Banerjee returned to Delhi in July for the first time since her Trinamool Trinamool party defeated the BJP in Bengal.
When Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called for opposition party unity, Priyanka Chaturvedi of the Shiv Sena, Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, and P Chidambaram of the Congress were among those present.
Ms Banerjee’s visit also included Sonia Gandhi as a guest. Rahul Gandhi was also present in the negotiations as the two parties sought common ground ahead of the 2024 elections.
“We talked about the opposition’s cohesion. It was a very successful and encouraging meeting, in my opinion. “Everyone will have to collaborate,” Ms Banerjee said, in order to defeat the BJP.
Her victory in Bengal sparked speculation that she would represent a united opposition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian National Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha election in India.
Abhishek Banerjee and Trinamool Congress Chief Minister Abhishek Banerjee have been campaigning in Tripura and Goa for over a year and a half (which votes in 2024).
Ms. Banerjee has since been mentioned as a possible Prime Minister candidate
Although she was cautious in a May interview with NDTV, saying, “Sometimes you can’t decide everything right away.” Things are different during election season. There must be a minimum programme on which everyone can agree.”
Mrs Gandhi hosted a second meeting of opposition leaders in August. Ms Banerjee was joined in the virtual meeting by her counterparts from Tamil Nadu (MK Stalin), Maharashtra (Uddhav Thackeray), and Jharkhand (Hemant Soren), as well as representatives from the RJD, the NCP, and the Left.
“Forget who is the leader; let us put our personal interests aside,” Ms Banerjee said in the midst of intense speculation about who would lead the opposition in its fight against the BJP.
