Mukul Goel is a 1987-batch IPS officer, took charge as Director General of Police (DGP) for the Uttar Pradesh state. As Hitesh Chandra Awasthy retired from the services, Mukul Goel is posted in that position, on Friday. Before the appointment as UP DGP, Goel was worked in Border Security Force (BSF) as a DG, operations. He served in the post of ADG, Law, and Order, during the Muzaffarnagar riots in 2013.
After landing at Amausi airport, Lucknow, the police chief went to the Hanuman Setu temple and then met the Uttar Pradesh CM, Yogi Adithanath. Later, he took charge as DGP at DGP headquarters, as per the protocol. In the first interaction with media, as DGP, he said “the police’s job is to control crime and crime can be controlled with public support. To reduce the gap between police and the public, policemen should be more interactive with the people.”

Mukesh Goel is born on 22nd February 1964, in the Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. He pursued B.Tech (Electrical Engineering), from IIT Delhi. He also has a Diploma in disaster management and a French Proficiency certificate.
Goel worked as SP/SSP in different regions and also posted in ITBP and NDRF.
