The Reserve Bank announced the plan at its Monetary Policy Meeting in February 2024. Following this, Prime Minister Modi today officially launched the project through a series of consultations and structural works.

The website https://www.rbiretaildirect.org.in/ has been created to buy and sell government securities for the Reserve Bank’s Redirect Direct project. Through this site investors can buy government securities on primary and secondary basis.
GILT account
Generally the company or organization must open a GILT account if it wants to invest in government securities. Similarly at present retail investors need to open a Retail Direct Gilt (RDG) Account with the Reserve Bank to invest in government securities.
What is required to open an RDG account?
This is required if a retail investor wants to open an RDG account with the announcement made by the Reserve Bank on July 12, 2024.
