South Africa Unrest: The looting and violence continue in South Africa’s Durban area as there are no signs of unrest abating between Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
The number of SANDF (South African National Defence Force) deployed has increased to 25,000. The force remains in other provinces along with the Gauteng’s hotspots because “we don’t want to give the chance to the instigators, in other provinces,” said an official.
In the eastern regions of South Africa, a total of 212 people have been killed in the past week’s violent protest. Over 1000 shops have been plundered. The arrested people count is more than 1200.
Following the imprisonment of South Africa’s former President Jacob Zuma, riots have happened. In those riots, thousands of businesses owned by the Indian community members have been destroyed and looted
The home province of Zuma, KZN, commands support among loyalists in the ruling ANC (African National Congress), who portray him as a champion of the poor.
Unrest Was Planned
South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has said that the violence that has shocked the country had been planned and vowed to hunt the responsible ones of the South Africa Unrest.
