the government is debating whether the MSP issue should be addressed through a set of guidelines or as a statutory mandate, as farmers have requested.
One of the three contentious farm laws has been proposed by the government and is awaiting approval from the Prime Minister’s Office. It will be a single comprehensive bill rather than three separate laws.
Furthermore, the Agriculture Ministry is debating whether to address the Minimum Support Price (MSP) issue as guidelines or as a statutory requirement, as farmers have requested. ”
According to an official source, a bill proposed this week would dissolve all boards formed in connection with the three farm laws, and all decisions made by them would be null and void.” Any offices that have been established will also be closed at the end of the month. Some states reportedly attempted to operate during the six-month period when the laws were in effect.
In a speech to the nation on November 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the repeal of three farm laws enacted last year
“Our farmers are still confused about what’s going on.” Now is not the time to point fingers at others. “You should be aware that the farm legislation has been repealed.” Farmers were urged by the Prime Minister to return to their homes and fields.
There were numerous other issues to be discussed, and farmers demanded that the government send a delegation to meet with them to discuss them all. A government guarantee of MSP was once again demanded. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella group of farmer organisations, has stated that they will continue to hold their planned protest events outside of the national capital until the laws are formally repealed in Parliament.
