Tilak hailing from Hyderabad is Mumbai Indian’s new recruit whose father is an electrician. He couldn’t continue his son’s cricket training. The Southpaw’s coach Salam Bayash took care of all his expenses and provided him with all the equipment to continue his dream of cricket.
The 19 years old was popped into the uncapped player’s list in the Indian Premier League mega auctions. Mumbai Indians had to fight with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, and Rajasthan Royals in intense bidding to recruit him for Rs. 1.7 crores.
Tilak Varma earned 8.5 times more than his base price, as the bidding started at 20 lakhs. Since then, he has been in the limelight in the cricketing world. He was overwhelmed when he received the news of being picked by Mumbai Indians. Varma usually plays in the middle order and delivers off-spin as well. He told IANS that he was on a video call with his coach when his name was put up for the actions. He also told how he feels being recruited by Mumbai Indians and that he always has admired MI since his childhood. After hearing the news, all his Ranji team started dancing and was very happy and excited.
Varma was also part of the Triumphant Indian Team that won the U-19 ODI World Cup this year.
Talking about his early days, his father never said no to anything he wanted, but due to financial problems in his family, he couldn’t afford such things.
Once, he broke his bat and his father promised him that he would buy a new one, but he couldn’t buy it due to a lack of money. He repaired that broken bat on his own and continued playing with it. He made the highest runs in U-16 cricket with that broken bat.
