Top 10 SUV Cars in India 2024
When it comes to SUV cars in India, there are a lot of choices to choose from. However, you want to be sure that you are getting a vehicle that will give you the best bang for your buck. Luckily, there are plenty of vehicles on the market today that have the features and performance you need.
Kia Seltos
The Kia Seltos is one of the most stylish SUVs in the subcompact segment. It offers a spacious cargo area with ample space for hauling camping gear or home improvement supplies. With the rear seatbacks folded, the car’s total volume is 62.8 cubic feet.
Kia offers the Seltos in three different trims: LX, S and EX. Each of these models features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 146 horsepower. Those who want more power can opt for the SX and Nightfall Edition, which both come with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder.
Standard equipment includes an eight-speaker audio system with a fractal-textured speaker grille. Other conveniences include a 10-way power driver’s seat, a reclining rear seat, a power sunroof and a wireless smartphone charger. All but the LX and S models are equipped with a 10.3-inch touch-screen display.
For the best value, choose the Kia Seltos EX. This model comes with an upgraded infotainment system, 18-inch alloy wheels, and synthetic leather upholstery. A 7.0-inch color gauge cluster display and split-screen navigation are also available.
Kia’s warranty coverage is the best in the industry. It covers up to 100,000 miles of powertrain coverage. In addition, the company guarantees its vehicles for 10 years.
Several online reports are speculating that Kia will debut a new 1.5-litre petrol engine for the Seltos. While it will not be sold in the domestic market, it will export to various emerging markets.
Honda HR-V
HR-V is an SUV that offers practicality for small families. It is designed to compete against vehicles such as the Hyundai Creta, the Kia Selto, and the Maruti Brezza. The Honda HR-V is expected to be launched in India by this festive season.
The new HR-V will be available with 1.5-litre petrol engines. These will be available with either a CVT or automatic gearbox. AWD models will also be offered. In addition, e:HEV models will be available.
Honda HR-V’s rear seats fold flat for a huge cargo area. The interior is well-designed, spacious, and comfortable for five passengers.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Sport and LX models will feature a larger, 9-inch screen. Both are simple to use and responsive. They also support Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
Honda HR-V is equipped with a suite of active safety technology, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning. Traffic sign recognition is also included.
Honda’s design language is evident throughout the HR-V’s interior. This is a more modern looking car than the first generation. Some of its design features include a hexagonal grille and a subtle roof-mounted spoiler.
The Honda HR-V is a nippy SUV. It has a smooth ride and good visibility. However, fuel economy has taken a hit. EPA mileage for front-wheel-drive models is 28 mpg combined. Those with all-wheel-drive are rated at 27 mpg.
Hyundai Creta
The Hyundai Creta has been a popular nameplate in the Indian market for many years. It has consistently clocked good sales numbers and has managed to stay among the top 10 SUV cars in the country.
Hyundai Creta is scheduled for a mid-life update in the next few years. The facelift will feature a new design language as well as improved safety standards.
The facelifted version will continue to be a five-seater. Its price could range from Rs. 15 lakh to Rs. 30 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Its interior is also equipped with premium cabin materials and has a contemporary steering wheel. It comes with wireless charging and a 7-inch digital instrumentation console. Disc brakes and stability control are standard.
In terms of exteriors, the Hyundai Creta will get a new grille and sharper looking lamps. It also has a low-positioned turn indicator.
Mahindra Thar 5-door
Mahindra’s new 5-door SUV is getting ready for the market. The company is working to create a buzz surrounding the new model. It is expected to come out in January.
The 5-door Thar is being tested around India. The design of the new model is similar to the existing three-door model. However, it will be larger, providing more space inside.
Mahindra’s Thar is one of the bestselling SUVs in India. It comes with a host of modern creature comforts. For instance, it has reverse parking sensors, auto climate control, tyre direction monitoring, navigation, dual airbags, and a touchscreen infotainment system.
The Thar has received a 4-star safety rating from the Global NCAP. In addition, it has a high waiting list. With more people clamouring for a larger, more practical variant, it’s clear that Mahindra is eager to bring one to market.
The five-door model is being designed to offer a more comfortable ride. This could be achieved by increasing the wheelbase, width, and length. Despite its wider profile, the Thar will still be suitable for off-roading.
Like the three-door model, the five-door version will share the same underpinnings. It’s likely that it will feature the same powertrains, but it will have a longer wheelbase and larger interior space.
One possibility is that the 5-door Thar will be offered with a hard top. Although this hasn’t been confirmed, there are plenty of spy shots showing the vehicle testing with a hard top.
Force Gurkha- 5 door
Force Motors is one of the largest manufacturers of commercial vans in India. It entered the passenger vehicle segment in 2008 with the Gurkha SUV. Now, in the year 2024, it is expected to debut a five-door version of its popular SUV. The new Gurkha is expected to be a more practical substitute for luxury SUVs.
The Force Gurkha is based on an extended Gurkha three-door platform. This model has a four-wheel-drive system as standard. The five-door version will have the same engine and gearbox as the three-door model. Depending on the variant, it will likely come with either a five-speed manual or a part-time four-wheel-drive system.
The five-door SUV will have a 400mm longer wheelbase than its three-door sibling. It will be able to seat seven people. There will be three rows of seating, with the option of captain seats in the third row.
It is expected that the five-door Gurkha will have a price tag of around Rs 16 lakh. Ex-showroom, the five-door version is estimated to cost around Rs 1 to 1.5 lakh more than its three-door sibling.
The Gurkha will be available in six to nine-seat configurations in India. A pickup variant will also be available. In Indonesia, it will be sold under the name Republik Motor Ksatria.
As with the three-door model, the five-door version of the Gurkha is powered by a 2.6-litre diesel engine. It generates 90 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny
Jimny is an SUV that is manufactured by Maruti Suzuki. The SUV is made at the company’s Gurugram plant. It will be exported to foreign markets and is expected to be released in India by 2024.
Maruti Jimny has a seating capacity of four passengers. The vehicle has a spacious interior. Moreover, the cabin is equipped with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and circular AC vents. The dashboard features a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
For safety, the Jimny has an electronic stability control, six airbags and ABS with EBD. There is also a rear camera and parking sensors. However, there is no auto-dimming inside the rearview mirror.
While the three-door Jimny has a waiting period of up to nine months, the five-door variant has a shorter wait. This vehicle can be bought for under INR 20 lakh.
The Suzuki Jimny has been in production for over half a century. The SUV is designed to handle harsh conditions. Besides, it has a low weight.
If you want a SUV that is affordable, then the Jimny is a good choice. With its 5-door version, it can be used for daily chores as well as off-road trips.
Compared to other SUVs in its class, the 5-door Jimny is not very powerful. In addition, it has a poor ride quality on paved roads. Hence, it is not a great option for driving in the city.
