Shri Mahakal or Mahakaleshwar Temple is situated in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Mahakaleshwar Temple is one of the most well-known and old rulers of Shiva sanctuary and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The managing divinity is Lord Shiva and is arranged on the sacred waterway KShipra/Shipra. The Shiva lingam is accepted to be Swayambhu, determining flows of force (Shakti) from inside itself as against different pictures and lingams that are ceremonially settled and contributed with mantra-shakti.
The Mahakaleshwar icon is known as Dakshinamukhi, which implies that the lingam points toward the south. This is a novel component, affirmed by the Tantric shivnetra custom that must be found in Ujjain Mahakal sanctuary between the 12 Jyotirlingas.
Mahakaleshwar Temple is situated close to a lake and has a roomy patio encompassed by enormous dividers. The sanctuary has five levels, one of that is underground. On one side of the Linga, there is the symbol of Lord Ganesha while on the opposite side, icons of Goddess Parvati and Kartikeya are introduced. The shikhara of the sanctuary is enhanced with sculptural delicacy.
Legend Behind Ujjain Mahakali Temple:
As indicated by a scene told in Puranas, a five-year-old kid named Shrikar was excited to see the dedication of King Chandrasena of Ujjain to Lord Shiva. Shrikar took a stone and considered it as a linga, he started to love it routinely. Others accepted that his clique was only a game and attempted to prevent him in any capacity. In any case, all endeavors were to no end. Despite what is generally expected, Shrikar’s commitment expanded as time passes. Satisfied with the kid’s dedication, Lord Shiva appeared as Jyotirlinga and dwelled in the Mahakal forest.
