Corona vaccine not available to Indian animals – who is responsible?
Voices are being raised about vaccinating pets and animals infected with corona. Environmentalists say the problem with animals is due to the fact that India is only interested in the corona vaccine for humans. The impact of the second wave of corona around the world has caused great distress to the public. Central and state governments have intensified vaccination programs to eradicate these.
Next, the nations of the world are preparing to face the impact of the third wave. At the same time, environmentalists and veterinary researchers are constantly talking about vaccinating against coronavirus infection that affects animals. Some of the domestic pets have been infected with corona and some of them have been left on the streets. That is, the unofficial report that “if the virus infects pets through humans, the virus will spread even faster through those animals to humans.”
This has led to the killing of pets in some countries, including China. In some countries, pets have been found roaming the streets. The animal welfare organization Beta, which protested, said there was no data on the spread of the virus from animals to humans. The corona strains that affect dogs are different. ”

The plight of pets
Biologists say there are two types of corona infections that can affect animals other than pets. One type of animal is kept in zoos, the other type of animal in sanctuaries.
No official information has been released on how the sanctuaries are affected due to the lack of human mobility. At the same time, corona infections continued to kill wildlife, including lions and tigers in zoos.
Death of lions
Neela, a female lion, recently died of a corona infection at the Vandalur Zoo in Chennai. Subsequently, the study found that 10 lions had been infected with corona. The lions were later isolated and treated, but one male lion died on June 16.
Samples of the lion were sent to the National Institute for the Protection of Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) in Bhopal, where it was revealed that the dead lion had contracted the Govt infection.
In addition, wildlife has died in zoos in areas including Gujarat and Hyderabad. This came as a shock to environmental activists.
According to a press release issued by Vandalur Zoo Deputy Director Naga Satish Kidijala, samples of `3 lions and 4 tigers have been sent to the Veterinary Research Institute of India (IVRI) for SARS CoV2 testing. According to the company, samples of 4 tigers and 1 lion were found to be ‘negative’ and two female lions, including the dead Neela, were found to be ‘SARS CoV2’ positive.
Different types of virus
A study by the same company found that 2 lions had the canine distemper virus (CDV). The remaining 5 samples were found to be ‘negative’. It is common to have some kind of stress, other bacterial, viral, or protozoan infections at the time of covid infection.
Furthermore, the genetic sequencing study of specimens of `4 lions was carried out at the Nisat Institute in Bhopal. According to the genetic sequencing analysis, the samples of 4 lions belong to the genus B.1.617.2 of the genus Bangol and belong to the delta species classified by the World Health Organization. On 11.05.2024, the World Health Organization classified B.1.617.2 as a variant of the genetic lineage. It is fast spreading and less neutral, ”said Naga Satish Kidijala.
