According to reports today, Kiran Gosavi, the Narcotics Control Bureau’s “independent witness” in the cruise ship drugs case, has expressed a desire to surrender to the Uttar Pradesh police due to feeling “threatened” in Maharashtra. A lookout notice has been issued for Gosavi’s whereabouts. However, the anticipated drama ended up being a letdown. According to an unverified audio clip circulated by sources close to Mr Gosavi, the police officers at a local station in Lucknow treated him unceremoniously when he attempted to enter the station.
This was a recording of a phone call in which a man, who was purportedly Mr Gosavi, could be heard asking if it was the Madiyaon police chowki. He confirmed the information and added: “I really want to go there. Hello, my name is Kiran Gosavi. I’m ready to give up right now “…..
“Can you tell me why you’ve come here?” the officer inquired.
For the time being, Mr Gosavi explained that this was the closest police station to him.
When the police officer confirmed that he did, in fact, want to surrender, he stated, “No, you are not allowed to surrender here. Try a different location “…..
In an earlier interview, the Lucknow police commissioner stated that Mr Gosavi would be unable to surrender in the Uttar Pradesh capital “because the Lucknow police station does not have the authority to take any action against him.”
According to NDTV, they were unable to verify the authenticity of the clip. However, because of its widespread distribution on social media, the Madiyaon police department made significant preparations to thwart another possible surrender attempt by the man who is wanted in Maharashtra.
A large number of police officers were seen waiting outside the building for something to happen. The media had also turned out in large numbers.
He told NDTV earlier this evening that he had decided to surrender in Lucknow because he felt “threatened” in Mumbai, and that he wished to do so in Lucknow.
Mr. Gosavi, a private investigator, was present during the cruise ship raid and later at the NCB office with Aryan Khan, where they discussed the case. It was clear from his selfies and videos taken with Aryan Khan in both locations that he had unrestricted access to the son of Shah Rukh Khan.
It sparked concerns among Maharashtra’s ruling alliance about the anti-drugs agency’s investigation, which fueled more questions. Several leaders questioned why a “independent witness” from the agency should be present during the raid and at the agency’s office, as well as taking selfies with the high-profile defendant. Yesterday, a man claiming to be Mr Gosavi’s personal bodyguard levelled bribery allegations against him in a press conference.
One of the other witnesses in the case, Prabhakar Sail, claimed that he overheard Mr Gosavi having a telephonic conversation about pay-offs with a man named Sam D’Souza.
Mr Sail claimed that he overheard Mr Gosavi say that they should ask for a “bomb of 25 crore” and then settle on a figure of 18 crore, of which 8 crore is for the NCB’s zonal officer in charge of the investigation, Sameer Wankhede, according to Mr Sail.
