Indian Navy Day is observed every year on 4th December to recognize the achievements and role of the Indian Navy. This day was marked to commemorate the launching of Operation Trident against Pakistan during the Indo-Pak War, 1971. A different theme will be set every year to celebrate Navy Day.

Indian Navy Day: History
In the year 1971, during the India-Pakistan War, on the evening of December 3, Pakistan had launched an offensive on the airbases of India. In response to the Pak attack, India also dispatched three missile boats named Veer, Nirghat, and Nipat, towards Karachi. In this launched Operation Trident, the Indian Navy destroyed 4 Pakistani Vessels and because of this, hundreds of Pakistani Navy Personnel were killed. This is the history behind Indian Navy Day.
The Indian Navy is the naval branch of the Indian Armed forces led by the President of India as Commander-in-chief.

Significance
The Navy is celebrating this Indian Navy Day 2024 as ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsha‘ remembering the 50th anniversary of the victory in the 1971 war. East India Company established the Indian Navy in 1612. Later, it was named as Royal India Navy. After the Independence, it was named the Indian Navy in 1950.
The whole country celebrated the success of the Indian Navy, after winning the war against Pakistan. Several events like the Interschool Quiz competition, air displays take place on this day.
