India’s top five medal contenders at Tokyo Olympics 2020: From PV Sindhu To Neeraj Chopra: The countdown has begun for the Tokyo Olympics. To start the games in the Japanese capital, only less than 15 days are left. Spectators are not allowed for the Tokyo Olympics, because of the COVID-19 threat. To start the games from July 23, all necessary protocols have been taken in the games area.
For the Tokyo Olympics, India is sending 126 athletes. The contingent includes alternate players for the team sports. India has hopes on PV Sidhu, Neeraj Chopra, and Saurabh Chaudhary, and others to return with medals.
Top five India medal contenders at Olympics
PV Sindhu
PV Sindhu was the silver medalist at Rio Olympics 2016. This year, she is the only Indian shuttler competing for the women’s single category. In the finals, she lost the game with Spain’s Carolina Marin and missed the gold medal, last time. Sindhu remains one of the biggest hope for India.
Neeraj Chopra
Neeraj Chopra is also a hope for India, to bring the first-ever Olympics medal in athletics. In Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, this javelin thrower won gold medals. But the Olympics field is the first time for him. Currently, his highest throw is 88.07m.
Saurabh Chaudhary
Saurabh Chaudhary is ranked in the second position at world rankings. At Olympics, he will be competing in Mixed 10m air pistol and Men’s 10m air pistol categories. He is the youngest player to win the 2018 Asian Games gold medal.
Bajrang Punia
He is competing in the 65kg weight category. He is one of the best wrestlers. Indians are having so many hopes in Punia.
Mary Kom
Mary Kom is a six-time world champion. In Indian Contingent, she is the most experienced campaigner. In the 2012 Olympics, she holds a bronze medal. She is aiming for the second medal. Mary Kom is the only female Indian boxer to win a medal in Olympics.
