1000 per vote, kamatchi lamp .. cash rain surpassing assembly election
Chennai: In the rural local government elections to be held in 9 districts in Tamil Nadu, a barrage of money has not been paid to the voters.
It is said that in a few places up to a thousand rupees per vote has been given to surpass the assembly elections. Rural local government elections will be held in two phases in Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Tirunelveli, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tenkasi, Vellore, Ranipettai and Tirupati districts. As the first phase, voting is taking place today for 78 District Panchayat Ward Members 755 Panchayat Union Ward Members 1577 Village Panchayat Presidents 12,252 Village Panchayat Ward Member Posts under 39 Panchayat Unions in 9 Districts.
The issue of honor
This is seen as a matter of honor for the ruling party as it is the largest by-election since the DMK won the assembly elections. The DMK is facing this election more cautiously than any other party, perhaps because they will campaign for the verdict of the people that the ruling party is not doing well if the opposition wins more seats.
Important for overcrowding
The AIADMK also sees this election as important. Because the main campaign of the party leaders was that we lost the assembly election by a narrow margin. So they have to win and make the ruling party realize that we are the biggest opposition. The AIADMK fears that if the DMK wins more seats, people will report that its rule has been recognized and that the AIADMK has been ignored.
DMK government action
Tamil Nadu Anti-Corruption Police have raided the homes of several former ministers, including Velumani. But the DMK government will be reluctant to take such action if it finds public support. So political observers say this election is a litmus test for the AIADMK.
It is in this situation that many of the candidates have reportedly contested and failed to deliver money to the voters. In some panchayats 500 rupees is given to voters while in some panchayats up to 1000 rupees per vote is given.
Kamatchi lamp is said to have been given as a gift to voters who can place it in a prayer room in Tirupati district. Candidates have even spoken sentimentally that they should swear on the Kamatchi lamp and drive for us. Candidates in districts including Nellai Tenkasi, whether they can fulfill it or not, have been making promises such as twisting the rope into a rope and bending the sky like a bow, and throwing away promises that are true.
Cash rain
There is so much cash rain that no party can speak morally on this matter. If the ruling DMK has appointed important ministers in charge of each district, the AIADMK has appointed former ministers. So the only thing that matters to them is success. According to sources, the money is flowing freely in the 9 districts.
