Manohar Lal Khattar, the Chief Minister of Haryana, has retracted his controversial remarks about forming volunteer groups that he claims can give farmers protesting agricultural laws “tit for tat” treatment, which he claims is possible.
After withdrawing his statement in response to criticism from farmers and the opposition, Mr Khattar issued a “apology.”
“My statement has been withdrawn. I don’t want to incite racial or ethnic tensions in the neighbourhood.” In Panchkula, he said:
The Chief Minister will be absent from a meeting tomorrow due to planned farmer protests
“The next day, I was supposed to attend a social programme sponsored by the Aggarwal community in Kaithal district. Farmers, despite my apologies, have vowed to fight it. He stated that Haryana’s assembly speaker would be present.
The controversial remarks were made by the Chief Minister while thanking members of the BJP’s farmers wing for starting the grain procurement process at his official residence.
“Recently, there has been a surge in the number of farm organisations. We owe it to them to lend a hand.” In a video released on Sunday, Mr Khattar says the following:
Farmers in Haryana’s north and west should form armed organisations… Begin ‘tit for tat’ policies with volunteer groups of 500-700-1000 people, and have them pick up sticks. If you get arrested, don’t worry about the consequences, and don’t worry about getting out on bail. When you’re finished, you’ll be an excellent leader.” He continued in this manner.
The Congress immediately launched an attack, claiming that Mr. Khattar had publicly advocated for strong-arm tactics.
The statement was “spread after being cut in half,” according to the Chief Minister’s Office.
On August 28th, Haryana police used force against farmers for the last time. Farmers on their way to Karnal to protest the Chief Minister’s attendance at a BJP meeting were lathi-charged by Haryana police, injuring around ten people.
