According to veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, Bollywood is under scrutiny because of its “high profile,” and that is the “price” it must pay.
While there were no headlines about a port recovering $1 billion in cocaine, Javed Akhtar stated that the recovery of Rs 1.3 lakh in charas or ganja has become national news in response to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan’s drug bust case.
It was just part of the price of working in the entertainment industry for him.
Following the arrest of Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan in connection with an alleged drug seizure from a cruise ship, there has been renewed interest in Bollywood and its celebrity culture.
Some social media users believe that Aryan Khan’s case was brought against him in order to target the entertainment industry.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) searched a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai on October 3 and arrested the 23-year-old.
According to Akhtar, the case of a celebrity’s son drew more media attention than the seizure of 2,988 kg of heroin at Mundra Port in Gujarat’s Kutch district, which was allegedly worth “one billion dollars.”
Akhtar refused to elaborate when asked if he believes Shah Rukh Khan and Aryan Khan are being targeted.
Aryan Khan is currently being held at Mumbai’s Arthur Road Prison. On the 20th of October, a special court heard his and two other people’s bail applications.
