Ambedkar Jayanti 2024: Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti is celebrated every year on the 14th of April to pay homage to Dr. BR Ambedkar, popular as Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Dr. BR Ambedkar was a politician, philosopher, economist, anthropologist, and social reformer who raise his voice against the Indian caste system. He was the chief architect of the Indian constitution and also stood for labor and women’s rights.

Dr. Ambedkar, also known as Babasaheb Ambedkar (BR Ambedkar) was born on 14th April 1891. To pay homage to his contributions to India, 14th April is celebrated as Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti in the country.
Ambedkar Jayanti: History
Janardan Sadashiv Ranapisay, who is a social activist and also a strong follower of BR Ambedkar started the celebration of the DR. BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary on 14th April 1928, for the first time in Pune. Since then, the country commemorates Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti as an official public holiday on the 14th of April every year.
Ambedkar Jayanti: Significance
The Ambedkar Jayanti holds significance because it draws attention to the caste-based bigotry that still presents in our society 75 years after independence.
We commemorate Babasahed Ambedkar’s contribution to the upliftment of the underprivileged. He formed the Central institution Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha to promote the basic rights and education of the untouchables.
