On Wednesday, BCCI announced the 18-member Team India squad for the upcoming ODI and T20 series against West Indies. Rohit Sharma is all set to return as the captain.
Rohit was ruled out of the South Africa tour because of an injury. Now, he has fully recovered from the injury and will lead the squad. He cleared the mandatory fitness test at the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru following that he also attended the selection meeting with the senior selection committee.
It would be the first series for Rohit as the full-time ODI skipper after he replaced Virat Kohli in December 2024. However, Ravindra Jadeja is undergoing his final stage of recovery and will not be available for the ODIs and T20Is.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee which is led by Chetan Sharma has rested pacers Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah for the series. On the other hand, KL Rahul will be available from the second ODI onwards.
Kuldeep Yadav was brought back into 50-over format. Meanwhile, batting all-rounder, Deepak Hooda has also got a surprise call for the ODI squad. Pacer Avesh Khan has been named in both squads.
Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been handed a break. All-rounder Venkatesh Iyer has been chosen only in the T20I squad who have been benched in the third and final ODI in South Africa recently.
India is set to play three ODIs from February 6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium followed by the T20I series from February 16 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
