With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 set to begin, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) chief mentor David Hussey has praised Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana for their performances for the team. The KKR opening duo is critical to the franchise’s UAE ambitions this year. Hussey stated that the duo’s performances have the potential to “shock the world.” During a pre-season interview with kkr.in, Hussey stated, “Both are excellent players. They are both excellent people. They are both adamant about doing well for this team and for themselves. Both have tasted international cricket, and I believe they are about to surprise the world by establishing themselves as the next generation of Indian players.”
“This isn’t just for one or two series. They’ve been there for a decade. If they get going, keep an eye out for us at the IPL “, he went on to say.
Gill struggled in the first half of the season, scoring only 132 runs in seven games, with a high score of 43. Despite his inconsistent performance in the IPL 2024, he has been a consistent mainstay in India’s Test team. During India’s World Test Championship (WTC) final loss to New Zealand, he was named to the starting XI.
The 22-year-old had to withdraw from the England tour due to a stress reaction on his left lower leg that developed during the WTC final.
Rana, on the other hand, is KKR’s leading run-scorer this season, with 201 from seven games. He also received a perfect score of 80.
