Indian Men’s Hockey Team made the country proud at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 by winning a Bronze medal. To end India’s wait for a medal in Hockey, Manpreet Singh and the team defeated World No. 5 Germany. The last medal won in Hockey was in 1981.
The victory is huge for the Indian Men’s Hockey Team who have toiled hard ever the last years. Reacting to India’s win, skipper Manpreet said that the team would dedicate its Bronze medal to the Covid-19 warriors and frontline workers who have been serving the nation during the pandemic.
After the match, Manpreet said that this medal is for our country’s Covid-19 warriors and frontline workers.
We should remember that, soon after stating of Indian team training after the first wave of Covid-19, the practice sessions came to half.
So many wishes are pouring in for the Indian team. After 41 years, this team has ended the medal drought in our national sport at the Olympics. PM Narendra Modi congratulated the Hockey team on its historic win against Germany.
Former Indian cricketer Gautham Gambhir applauded the victory as a bigger achievement than the world cup won by the Cricket team in 1983, 2007, and 2011.
In the context of the match, in the 2nd minute of the match, Timur Oruz scored a goal for Germany. In the 17th minute, Simranjit Singh scored an equalizer. By scoring two more goals in quick succession, Germany put pressure on India. Under the pressure, India fought back hard and scored two goals eventually sealed the match with 5-4.
