The list of 3 teams to be retained after the return period given to IPL teams has come to an end has been released.
A mega auction will be held for the 2024 IPL series. The BCCI has announced that each team will be able to retain only 4 players.
Today is the last day to hand over the list of players to be retained. They will be announced tonight at 9.30pm.
CSK team
In this case, the details of the retention of 3 teams have been released. The reigning champions Chennai Super Kings have already retained MS Dhoni as their first choice. He is followed by Ravindra Jadeja in the squad. Rudraj Kejriwal, who was similarly upset last season, has been selected as the 3rd player. Moin Ali has won the overseas selection amid a fierce rivalry between Duplessis and Moin.
Delhi Capitals
The Delhi Capitals, who have been embroiled in the IPL series for the past few years, have also made the final decisions. Rishabh Pund, the captain of the team, has been retained as the primary choice. He is followed by Prithviraj Shah and Akshar Patel. Andre Nordje retained in overseas player selection. The exclusion of Rabada and Shreyas Iyer from this list has come as a surprise to fans.
KKR
The unbeaten Kolkata Knight Riders have made great decisions to go all the way to the finals last season. That means the team’s captain Ian Morgan and senior player Dinesh Karthik have been sacked. Instead young players Varun Chakraborty and Venkatesh Iyer have been retained. Sunil Narine and Andre Russell have been retained in the overseas squad.
Continuous confusion
No definitive information has been released as the tug-of-war continues in other teams. However, all the teams will have submitted their lists to the BCCI by 5 pm today. Details of the players who will be retained on all teams will be revealed tonight at 9.30pm.
New controversy
Both the 2 newcomer teams and any of the players in the auction can directly contract 2 players. Accordingly, it seems that the Ahmedabad team alone has not made any effort as the Lucknow team has been netting key players like KL Rahul and Rashid Khan. The reason for this is the main allegation that arose against that team.
Illegal
It was announced that CVC Capitals Partners has won the Ahmedabad team in the auction held for new teams. The company bought it for Rs 5,625 crore. It was alleged that CVC Capital Partners had invested in some of the illegal companies involved in gambling to keep IPL matches.
Problem for the BCCI
The team has been suspended from engaging in bidding activities as the BCCI has received very credible information regarding the allegation. The BCCI has not yet taken any official action in this regard. Because today the list of players to be retained is being released.
What action will be
The BCCI has asked the IPL management to set up a committee to look into the matter of the Ahmedabad team. The CVC will decide whether to retain the Ahmedabad team as per the report submitted by the panel after conducting a speedy inquiry into the issue. Otherwise it will be transferred to another company. It may even occur in the context of not being able to participate in the IPL this year.
